Under every , the summary strip shows four things: Type, Profile, Authority and Definition. Type, we have already shown you how to read. Authority is the next step, and of the two it is probably the more useful day to day: it describes the way you are built to make decisions. The good news is that you can spot it on the chart with a single rule. Here it is, with real charts to practise on.
So what is Authority, exactly?
Authority is the bodily mechanism your design decides with. The mind is a wonderful tool for observing, comparing, understanding… but it is not built to decide. Your are. Authority simply names the one among your defined centres that has the last word in you.
And that changes everything in daily life: two people can have opposite ways of deciding well. One has to sleep on it, the other has her answer within the second, and neither of them is wrong: these are two different mechanisms. Trying to decide the way somebody else does is like driving with your neighbour’s dashboard.
One rule only: work down the list
There are seven Authorities, and they are ranked. You start at the top of the list, you work down, and the first centre you find defined (coloured) on your chart is the one in charge. There is nothing else to memorise: the ranking does all the work for you.

1. Emotional: the Solar Plexus beats everything
If your (the triangle at the bottom right) is defined, it is settled, whatever : is Emotional. It is the most common one, around half the population. Its great rule: there is no truth in the moment. Your Solar Plexus moves in waves, and clarity arrives after the wave, never inside it. Sleeping on a decision is not a lack of backbone, it is your user manual. The Emotional Authority page teaches you how to ride the wave.
2. Sacral: the gut answers
No defined , but a coloured ? Your answer is gut-level and immediate: energy that lights up for yes, and pulls back for no. On or off, not a line of reasoning. And the Sacral only knows how to answer closed questions: “do I want to work with this person?”, not “what should I do with my life?”. The detail is on the Sacral Authority page.
3. Splenic: the whisper of the moment
Neither nor defined, but the Spleen is (the triangle on the left)? is a bodily intuition that speaks once only, in the moment, without explaining itself. Wait to analyse it and the signal has gone. The Splenic Authority page helps you recognise that whisper.
4. Heart / Ego: “do I really want this?”
None of the three above, but a defined Heart? Your compass is your own willpower. The right question is not “is this sensible?” but “do I really want this?”, and the answer often turns up as you say it out loud. It is a rare Authority, covered in detail on the Heart / Ego Authority page.
Whether your Heart reaches or not decides whether you are a Manifestor (manifested ego, as it is called) or a Projector (projected ego): it is your Type that changes, not . Either way, your willpower is what decides. Plenty of texts run the two together and wrongly conclude that this Authority requires a link to the Throat.
5. Self-Projected (G Center): hearing yourself speak
None of the four above, but a defined G Center connected to ? Your truth comes out when you listen to yourself talk: not what you want, but what sounds like you. The person listening does not have to answer, their job is to be a mirror. More on the Self-Projected Authority page.
6. Mental (Environmental): the people around you as a sounding board
No at all: this is the case for some Projectors. Clarity comes neither from the gut nor from any one centre, it emerges as you talk your options through with neutral people, in places that nourish you. Sitting alone thinking it over does not work. The full user manual is on the Mental Authority page.
7. Lunar: one complete cycle of the Moon
No whatsoever: you are a Reflector, around 1 % of the population, and is Lunar. For an important decision you give yourself 28 days, the time the Moon needs to travel through all 64 and hand you every point of view. The Lunar Authority page describes that very particular rhythm.
Did you notice? The Head, the , and the Root may perfectly well be defined in your chart: no Authority is attached to any of them. The Throat serves as a connection point (a Heart or a G Center “connected to the Throat”), never as a compass.
Practise on four real charts
Emotional: Yves Klein

A Generator, so a defined . But look at the triangle at the bottom right: his is defined too, and in the ranking it comes first. Emotional Authority. The summary strip even says “double”: in an emotional Generator, both centres speak. First let the wave go by, then sample the Sacral response through it: it is emotional clarity that decides, never the Sacral alone.
Sacral: Robert Doisneau

A Generator here as well… but this time the is white. Down one step: the is defined, so the Sacral is the compass. Sacral Authority, the answer in the moment. Two Generators, two opposite ways of deciding: this is exactly why Type on its own is not enough.
Splenic: Brad Pitt

A Projector: white, white. We keep working down… and we stop at the Spleen, defined, connected to the Root. His intuition speaks once, straight away, and never repeats itself. Note in passing: his Root is defined too, but you can hunt for it in the list all you like, it is not there.
Lunar: Jeanne Moreau

A Reflector: not one , so nothing to circle on the drawing. The ranking runs all the way to the bottom and stops on the Moon: 28 days to let a big decision ripen, at her own pace and not at anyone else’s. The rarest case, and the easiest one to spot.
The trap that makes everyone doubt
The classic shortcut is “Generator = sacral response”. You have just seen that it is not so: Yves Klein is a Generator and decides emotionally. The rule is not “ chooses”, it is “the first on the list chooses”. Which is why you work down the ranking in order, without skipping the first step: a defined beats everything else, in a Manifestor exactly as in a Generator.
The other confusion is “deciding with your head”. No Authority sits in the mind, not even the Mental one: it is lived out loud, with people who listen, never in the silence of private thinking. The mind stays a marvellous adviser: it lights things up, it compares, it tells the story. It does not decide.
