Human Design relationship chart: what your composite shows, and why a compatibility percentage says almost nothing

Calculating your and your partner’s is free, and those two charts are already enough to find, by hand, the you complete together. Building your and reading the four forces of the connection in the Summary tab takes the Essentiel plan. Here is what a Human Design relationship chart actually shows, why a compatibility percentage says almost nothing about it, and how to read one on a well-known example: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, mechanics only.

Why a compatibility percentage says almost nothing

A lays your two Body Graphs on top of each other. Every gate activated in either of you lights up, and a channel forms as soon as both of its are there, whoever brings them. It is tempting to add it all up into a compatibility percentage. That single figure would flatten exactly what there is to read.

  • It adds up forces that mean opposite things. A channel you each already have on your own and a channel that only exists when you are together have nothing in common. To merge them into one score, someone has to decide that one counts for more than the other: that is a choice made by whoever writes the formula, not a measurement.
  • Two very different couples can land on the same figure. One has only each partner already had alone, the other creates several of them together: a single total can no longer tell them apart.
  • It hides who carries what. Yet that is the most concrete thing a tells you: when a channel is complete in one person and missing in the other, knowing whose it is changes the whole reading.

That is why the Summary tab of your shows no percentage. It counts the in each of the four forces and says whose chart holds the whole channels.

The four forces of the connection, in plain words

Every channel in the falls into exactly one category. The Summary block calls them , , and Compromise. The rule looks at one thing only: who has which of the channel.

  • . Each of you brings one gate, and not the same one. On your own, neither of you has this channel; together, it is complete. This is the only case where the channel is born from the meeting itself.
  • . You both have the whole channel. On this theme you speak the same language, but meeting adds nothing new to it.
  • . One of you carries the whole channel, the other neither of its two . The energy of that channel arrives ready-made from one side, and the other takes it in when you are together.
  • Compromise. One of you carries the whole channel, the other only one of its two . The partner with half of it finds that half inside a channel that is already complete in the other.

One channel, four ways of sharing it. Only the connection creates a channel that neither person had alone.

None of these forces is good or bad. does not mean one partner rules the other, and compromise does not mean anyone gives themselves up: they are names for arrangements of . For a refresher on what gates and are, see Channels and Gates.

Where to read them in your composite

With the Essentiel plan, compose your chart with the other person’s. Open your , then click “” in the display modes bar. In the window that opens, pick their chart from your saved Body Graphs, or open “+ Someone not saved”, enter their birth details and click “Compose”. The composite opens on the “Summary” tab.

At the top of the block, a heading names the most frequent force, for instance “Connection: magnetic”, or two forces when they are tied. A sentence then counts your , and those that only exist when you are together. The four forces follow, each with its number of channels. On the and Compromise lines, the words “Whole channel:” are followed by the name of the person who carries it: that is where you see which side the energy comes from. The other tabs of the go through each channel and each centre in detail.

The bridge in a Split Definition: Small, Wide, Triple

tells you whether your coloured centres form one single block or several separate islands. When they are separate, a can link them, and that is often what a couple notices most. It all depends on which of the six Definitions your chart shows.

  • Small Split. Two islands, and a channel that could join them already has one gate in your chart. A single gate brought by the other person is enough to bridge them.
  • Wide . Two islands, and no channel between them has been started. One gate is never enough: it takes at least two, sometimes more when the path runs through a centre left white.
  • Triple Split. Three islands. Here too, one gate never joins everything: it takes at least two for all three to hold together.

A closed bridge shows in the ’s Definition, which can read “Single” even when each of you, alone, is a . That does not mean you need the other person to be whole: your chart does not change, and your islands are still yours when you are on your own. How to see your Definition on the Body Graph shows you how to count them.

An example, mechanics only: Harry and Meghan

Let us take two charts whose names many people know: those of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. We say nothing about their story, only what the calculation of their two births gives.

Prince Harry is a Manifesting Generator 1/3 with a Small Split: one island joins , the and the , the other the G Center and Centre. Meghan Markle is a Generator 5/1, also with a Small Split: the and the Throat on one side, the G Center and the Sacral on the other. Their has 8 :

  • 3 : 1-8, 26-44 and 27-50. None of them exists in either chart alone.
  • 3 in , whole in Harry’s chart: 35-36, 10-57 and 6-59. Meghan has no gate in any of them.
  • 2 in compromise, whole in Meghan’s chart: 11-56 and 2-14. Harry has only one gate of each, gate 11 in the first and gate 14 in the second.
  • None in .

So the Summary block is headed “Connection: magnetic and of ”: two forces tied, three each.

The of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the Summary tab: four forces counted, no percentage.

Now look at the bridge. In Meghan’s chart, gate 1 in the G Center sits there without gate 8; in Harry’s, gate 8 in sits there without gate 1. Together, channel 1-8 joins the G Center to the Throat, and both Small Splits close at once. For Harry, 27-50 and 2-14 also bridge his two islands. The result: 7 of the defined, the Head and the Root still white, and a Single Definition for the .

What these words do not say: “ in Harry’s chart” only means that three are complete in his chart and absent from Meghan’s. Nothing in it says who decides or who gives way.

What a composite will never tell you

  • Whether to stay, leave or commit. No channel decides for you. Each person keeps their own : in the example, Harry’s Emotional Authority and Meghan’s Sacral Authority do not merge into the .
  • Whether the other person completes you. A closed bridge is an arrangement of , not a gap the other person has to fill.
  • What you live together. The shows where energy flows between you. How you live with it is up to the two of you.

Key takeaway: a is read in four forces, not as a percentage. Count the , find out whose chart holds the whole channels, then check whether your islands connect. The compatibility calculator draws your composite and counts your channels for free, with no account; the detailed reading of each connection takes the Essentiel plan.
