Maybe you have come across sidereal or Vedic astrology and wondered: is my calculated in the right zodiac? The answer fits in one sentence: Human Design is tropical, by design. And the wheel of shows it on its own, at eight points in the year.
Two zodiacs, one sky
A zodiac cuts the path the Sun appears to travel across the sky over a year into 12 signs of 30°. Everything depends on where you start counting.
- The starts where the Sun stands at the March equinox. It is tied to the seasons: 0° Aries is always the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere.
- The sidereal zodiac keeps 12 equal signs but ties them to the stars. The Lahiri school, the one used in Vedic astrology, puts the star Spica at 0° Libra. The Fagan-Bradley school sets its starting point slightly differently: the two are less than one degree apart.
Why do the two no longer line up? Because the Earth’s axis slowly wobbles like a spinning top, one full turn in about 26,000 years. This is precession. Against the stars, the equinox point slips back by about one degree every 72 years. In 2026 the gap between the two zodiacs is 24.2° according to Lahiri and 25.1° according to Fagan-Bradley.
A common mix-up: sidereal does not mean “by the constellations”. The Sun passes through 13 constellations, Ophiuchus included, and they vary a lot in size. The sidereal zodiac, on the other hand, keeps 12 equal signs of 30°.
The wheel of gates is written in tropical
Human Design divides the same circle into 64 of 5.625° each. Where each gate sits is fixed by a table given in tropical longitude: Gate 41 begins at 2° Aquarius, Gate 25 at 28.25° Pisces. Our engine calculates with exactly this table, as Human Design software does by default.
So Human Design reads the same sky as Western astrology, only sliced differently. We compared the two readings in Human Design vs astrology.
Eight points in the year, eight gates of the G Center
This is where it becomes visible. Take the four points that open the seasons (the two equinoxes and the two solstices), then the four points that each season in half, when the Sun reaches 15° Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. Then look up the gate the Sun is in at each of these eight points (northern hemisphere seasons).
| Point in the year | Sun’s position | Gate |
|---|---|---|
| March equinox | 0° Aries | 25 |
| Mid-spring, early May | 15° Taurus | 2 |
| June solstice | 0° Cancer | 15 |
| Midsummer, early August | 15° Leo | 7 |
| September equinox | 0° Libra | 46 |
| Mid-autumn, early November | 15° Scorpio | 1 |
| December solstice | 0° Capricorn | 10 |
| Midwinter, early February | 15° Aquarius | 13 |
All eight belong to the G Center, the centre of identity and direction according to Ra Uru Hu. It has exactly eight gates, and these are the ones. They begin exactly 45° apart on the wheel, and at each of these moments the Sun is in their line 2. No other centre has its gates laid out this way.

Each group of four forms an Incarnation Cross, named by Ra Uru Hu:
- equinoxes and solstices, 25, 15, 46 and 10: the Cross of the Vessel of Love;
- mid-season points, 2, 7, 1 and 13: the Cross of the Sphinx. These four gates also open the four quarters of the wheel: Gate 13 the , Gate 2 the Quarter of Civilisation, Gate 7 the Quarter of Duality and Gate 1 the Quarter of Mutation.
A signature, not a proof
Let’s be honest about what this match shows. The wheel was laid on the , so its landing on the seasons follows directly from that. It is the signature of that choice, not evidence that Human Design is true.
What it does show is a coherent construction. The calendar of the seasons is written into a single centre, and that match only exists in tropical.
What if you calculated in sidereal?
Switching to sidereal means taking about 24° off every planet. On the wheel, everything moves back by roughly four . On the day of the March equinox, the Sun would no longer be in Gate 25 but right on the border between Gates 55 and 37, two gates. It would be in Gate 55 according to Fagan-Bradley, and only just in Gate 37 according to Lahiri. None of the eight points would fall in the G Center any more.

For a chart, this is no detail. Take Kylian Mbappé, born on 20 December 1998 in Paris, less than two days before the December solstice. In tropical his Sun is in Gate 10, and his Cross is precisely the Vessel of Love. In sidereal, everything changes:
| Kylian Mbappé | Tropical | Sidereal (Fagan-Bradley) |
|---|---|---|
| Personality Sun | Gate 10, line 1 | Gate 34, line 5 |
| Type | Generator | Manifesting Generator |
| Profile | 1/3 | 5/1 |
| Cross | of the Vessel of Love | of Duality |
In Vedic (Lahiri), the Sun also lands in Gate 34, with a 5/2 profile. This is not a one-off. We recalculated 4,233 well-known people from our database, all born since 1960: in sidereal, the Profile and the Cross change every single time, and the Type stays the same only about three times in ten, roughly as often as for two strangers picked at random. A sidereal is a different Body Graph.
See the difference on a chart
On Rosmaryn, your is calculated in tropical, as the system intends. If you work with other people and want to show what the other zodiac changes, the Pro workspace does it in one click: on the “Generator” screen, in the “Create a Body Graph” section, the “System” choice offers Tropical, Sidereal (Fagan-Bradley) or Vedic (Lahiri). The summary then flags everything that differs from tropical: Type, Profile, Authority, Definition, Cross.
Key takeaway: Human Design is tropical by design, and its wheel of is written in the zodiac of the seasons. The eight points of the year fall on the eight gates of the G Center: the signature of that choice, not a proof. In sidereal, everything moves back by about four gates, and you get a different .
