Beneath every Tone on your chart live five Bases, the last five steps of the staircase running from the gate down into the infinitely fine: gate, line, colour, tone, base. It is the smallest unit in the whole system. The arithmetic checks out: 5.625° for a gate, divided by 6, then 6, then 6, then 5, leaves 18.75 seconds of arc per Base. A planet's position therefore falls in one precise base, written fifth in the full notation: in 34.2.4.5.3, the final 3 is the Base.
You can display it on your Body Graph. The "Bases" layer puts the figure next to the Tone of each of your four Variables; the "Colour · Tone · Base" layer unfolds the full notation of all 26 activations. The Base changes nothing in how the levels above it read: the Colour gives the theme, the Tone orients it. It is their footing, the finest notch of adjustment.
What we do not publish, and why. Tradition assigns detailed meanings to each base. We do not carry them over as they stand, for two reasons we own. The first is editorial: everything this site publishes is written by us, and that work is not finished for the bases. The second weighs more: testing our engine on thousands of charts, we measured that a shift of one single second in the birth time already changes a Base in 0.5 % of cases, and one minute changes 13.5 %. A civil birth time, recorded to the minute, therefore cannot establish a Base with certainty, except in Base 3. Publishing clear-cut readings on data that fragile would mean passing verdicts on noise.
In practice. Read your Base as a position within the Tone: beginning, core or end. Bases 1 and 5 are the two border slices, hanging on the exact minute of your birth; Base 3 sits furthest from the edges and is the sturdiest. And always take the reading in this direction, from the arrow down to the detail: a Base never reads alone, it qualifies the Tone that carries it, which in turn orients its Variable's arrow.
Five, not six. Line, colour and tone are counted in sixes; the bases, in fives. It is not a truncated series: the first four form a yin/yang square (yang/yang, yang/yin, yin/yin, yin/yang), which recall four family figures of the trigrams, and the fifth sits at the centre of that square, resulting from the other four. They are also named by their nature, the Reactive, the Integrative, the Objective, the Progressive and the Subjective, where we name them by their position within the Tone. Each page gives both.
The 4 variables form the “PHS” (Primary Health System). Each is made of a colour (the what) and a tone (the how). V1 and V4 are carried by the Sun; V2 and V3 by the lunar nodes.
